May 04, 2020     Time for paint - (6.0 hours)       Category: Empennage
Time to disassemble and prep all of the rudder internal parts and make ready for primer. Nothing too exciting to show here, prepping parts is simple but time consuming. My process is once the parts are deburred, to use a slightly wet maroon scotchbrite pad to scuff the shine off of each part, then use denatured alcohol to do an initial cleaning followed by acetone to do a final cleaning. Wipe gently with acetone until there is no more residue showing on a clean white cloth. From there do not handle the parts without gloves.

With the parts hung in the paint booth, gray SEM applied, a little too thick in a few spots and parts left to dry overnight.

Still learning to paint with primer. I need to be patient and not try to achieve a complete coverage on the first spray session. 2 passes maximum for any part and then let dry, evaluate the coverage and respray as required. So far I've had a few runs from putting it on too heavy.
